General Ne Win

General Ne Win (1910-2002) was the supreme commander of the Burma Socialist Programme Party and a figurehead in 1958 and 1962 coup d’états. He repealed many of the Buddhist laws that had been put in place by his predecessor, U Nu, and instituted controls of the Sangha as a means of curtailing opposition to the military government.
