RPL Graduate Assistants (GA) work closely with a staff person on the RPL team to carry out a range of duties in support of the RPL mission. GAs contribute to the collective vision and work of the RPL as we build and promote it. The RPL is committed to ensuring the GA’s responsibilities include those substantive, not just administrative (though some administrative support will be required). RPL seeks as much as possible to ensure the work done aligns directly with the student’s own interests and formation.

General qualifications: The office seeks a student with an understanding of and commitment to the mission of RPL. Prior experience with RPL’s frameworks and approach is preferable but not required. The GA must have a desire to work with our team to build the RPL in ways attentive to inclusion and justice. We seek students who are dependable, good communicators, and creative thinkers; those who can work independently and take initiative, but also work well with a team.

Specific duties and qualifications:
RPL will be hiring GAs to fill three types of roles: General Assistants, Communications Assistants and Online Training and Education Assistants.

Religion and Public Life Assistants: General RPL Graduate Assistants work with the Associate Director of Religious Literacy and the Professions to engage in projects related to our two primary programmatic initiatives: Religious Literacy and the Professions and Religion, Conflict, and Peace. This includes research and tracking of opportunities for student internships and public engagement skills-building, research and writing of case studies, support to the RPL Fellows, development of resources for professionals seeking to enhance religious literacy, support to RPL public events, and other such projects related to our programs for students and professionals. GAs in this role will be expected to attend weekly RPL staff meetings.

RPL Communications Assistants: RPL Communications GAs will work with the Communications Specialist to support the development of written profiles of students, fellows, and partners of RPL, create content for RPL’s social media platforms (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn), help develop website and newsletter content, support video and audio projects, track media coverage of RPL and capture photos of RPL programs.

RPL Online Training and Education Assistants: RPL Online Training and Education GAs will work with the Religious Literacy Specialist to develop content for, and manage discussion boards on, RPL’s eight HarvardX courses. These courses cover topics related to religious literacy and religion and public life broadly. These courses cover topics related to religious literacy and religion and public life broadly, and include the following: Religion Conflict and Peace, Religious Literacy and Hinduism, Islam, Sikhism, Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, and a range of thematic content such as the arts, racial and climate justice.

Schedule: 10-15 hours per week, with options for hybrid, in-person, or virtual. In-person hours will be negotiated to accommodate the students’ course schedule and RPL needs.

Pay rate: $20 per hour. Interested applicants should complete this application form

Applications will be accepted and considered on a rolling basis until Tuesday, September 6; those interested are encouraged to apply ASAP online at tinyurl.com/RPLJobApplication2022
