Pentecostalism

A charismatic movement within Protestant Christianity where followers who experience baptism in the Holy Spirit (a profound spiritual encounter) are able to speak in tongues (glossolalia) which is a fluid form of speech delivered in a trance-like state and not readily comprehensible. Historically, Pentecostalism began in Kansas (USA) in the early part of the 20th century but it has become one of the fastest growing contemporary global religious movements.  Pentecostalism is especially strong and growing in the global south.
